🥩 Hearty comfort food that transforms simple hamburger into a satisfying steak-like meal
🍲 Rich mushroom gravy creates a restaurant-quality dish using budget-friendly ingredients

  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8 servings

Ingredients

– 2 pounds (about 900 g) hamburger meat

– 1 cup saltine cracker crumbs (approximately 28 crackers)

– Just under 1 cup milk

– ½ small onion, finely chopped

– 1 ½ teaspoons salt

– ½ teaspoon black pepper

– ½ teaspoon chili powder

– ½ teaspoon garlic powder

– ¼ to ½ cup flour for coating

– 3 tablespoons butter for frying

– 1 or 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup for gravy

– 1 can of milk (about 1 ½ cups or 360 ml) for gravy

Instructions

1-First, combine the hamburger meat, saltine cracker crumbs, milk, finely chopped onion, salt, black pepper, chili powder, and garlic powder in a large bowl. Mix gently to avoid overworking the meat, which helps keep the patties tender.

2-Shape the mixture into patties, about 1-inch thick, then coat each one in flour for a crispy exterior.

3-Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and fry the patties in butter for 3-4 minutes per side until browned.

4-Transfer the patties to a baking dish and pour the mushroom soup mixed with milk over them for the gravy.

5-Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 20-25 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

6-Let the dish rest for a few minutes before serving to lock in the juices.

Notes

🥄 Don’t overmix the meat mixture or the patties will become tough
🔥 For extra flavor, add a splash of Worcestershire sauce to the gravy
🍚 Make extra gravy to serve over mashed potatoes or egg noodles for a complete meal
