Ingredients
– 1 pound uncooked penne pasta
– 1 tablespoon olive oil
– 1 pound lean ground beef (90% or more lean)
– 1/2 medium onion, chopped (yellow onion preferred)
– 1 clove garlic, minced
– 1.5 cups marinara sauce
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese (grated from a block preferred)
Instructions
1-Preheat your oven: to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and place the rack in the middle. Don’t forget to grease a 9×13 baking dish to keep things from sticking.
2-Boil a large pot of salted water: and cook 1 pound of penne pasta for about 10 minutes, but keep it slightly undercooked so it doesn’t get mushy later.
3-Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat, then add 1 pound of lean ground beef (90% or more lean) and 1/2 medium chopped onion. Sauté and break up the meat for about 10 minutes, adding 1 clove of minced garlic halfway through. If there’s extra fat, drain it off for a lighter result.
4-Stir in 1.5 cups of marinara sauce and let it warm through, then season with salt and pepper to taste for that perfect flavor balance.
5-Drain the pasta and add it to your greased baking dish. Pour the beef mixture over the top and toss it gently to mix everything well.
6-Spread it out evenly in the dish, then sprinkle 1.5 cups of shredded cheddar cheese on top. If you want it extra cheesy, stir in an additional half cup of cheese before adding the topping.
7-Bake uncovered for 10 minutes until the cheese melts nicely. For a golden touch, broil it for a few minutes, then serve it right away for the best taste.
Notes
🧀 Ingredient quantities can be adjusted to taste, including more sauce, cheese, or beef.
⏲️ Slightly undercook pasta to prevent mushiness after baking.
