  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 6-8 servings

Ingredients

– 1 lb lean ground beef

– 6 slices of bacon

– 1 large diced onion

– 1 diced green pepper

– 1 diced red pepper

– 1 cup sliced mushrooms

– 4 cloves chopped garlic

– 16 oz pasta

– 3 cups shredded cheese (smoked gouda, aged sharp provolone, sharp cheddar)

– 2 cups heavy cream

– Beer (or chicken stock) to enhance the sauce

– 1 tbsp basil

– Salt and pepper to taste

– Parsley for garnish

– 2 tbsp butter

– ½ cup Panko breadcrumbs

– Cayenne pepper for heat

– Jalapeño peppers for extra spice

Instructions

1-Getting started: getting started with beefy bacon beer ziti is as easy as firing up your grill and following a few simple steps. Begin by preheating your grill to 400 degrees, which gives that outdoor smoky flavor we all love. Add 2 tablespoons olive oil to a 5 or 9 quart cast iron Dutch oven right on the grill for even cooking.

2-First, brown the beef: the 1 lb lean ground beef in the pot until it’s nearly done, stirring to break it up. Once that’s underway, toss in the 1 large diced onion, 1 diced green pepper, 1 diced red pepper, 1 cup sliced mushrooms, and 4 cloves chopped garlic. Let these veggies cook until they’re softened and aromatic, adding depth to the dish.

3-While that’s happening, cook the 6 slices of bacon on the grill until they’re crisp just how you like them. In a separate bowl, mix together the 3 cups shredded cheese think smoked gouda, aged sharp provolone, and sharp cheddar along with 2 cups heavy cream, beer (or chicken stock), 1 tbsp basil, a dash of nutmeg if you have it, and salt and pepper to taste. Stir this into the beef and veggie mix for a creamy, flavorful base.

4-Bake everything on the grill for 30 to 45 minutes, letting the flavors meld beautifully. Meanwhile, on the stovetop, melt the 2 tbsp butter in a skillet and toast the ½ cup Panko breadcrumbs until golden. Once the baking time is up, stir the casserole, then top it with the toasted breadcrumbs, parsley for garnish, the cooked bacon, and those optional jalapeño slices if you’re in the mood for spice.

5-Pop it back on the grill for another 15 minutes to finish. Check out this similar pasta recipe for more ideas on perfecting your technique. The result is a bubbly, cheesy masterpiece that’s ready to serve, with prep time around 20 minutes, cook time about 40 minutes, and total time roughly 1 hour.
