Ingredients
– 1 pound (454g) ground beef
– 1 chopped onion
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
– 1 teaspoon onion powder
– 1 teaspoon paprika
– 2 teaspoons chili powder
– 1 tablespoon minced garlic
– 4 chopped hot dogs
– 1 (10-ounce) can diced tomatoes and green chiles, drained
– 1 (15.5-ounce) can chili beans, not drained
– 3 tablespoons tomato paste
– 1 cup (113g) shredded Colby Jack cheese (shredded cheddar can be substituted)
– 1 (30-ounce) bag crispy crowns or tater tots (not all used)
– 2 chopped green onions
– Mustard for topping
Instructions
1-Chop the onion, green onions, and hot dogs to get everything ready for cooking.
2-Brown the ground beef with the chopped onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season it with salt, black pepper, ground cumin, paprika, chili powder, and onion powder, then drain any excess grease.
3-Add the minced garlic and chopped hot dogs to the skillet; stir everything together to combine the flavors.
4-Mix in the drained diced tomatoes and green chiles, the chili beans (including their liquid), and tomato paste. Stir well and let it simmer for a few minutes to thicken up.
5-Transfer the mixture to an oven-safe dish, or keep it in the skillet if it’s oven-safe. Spread the shredded Colby Jack cheese evenly on top.
6-Arrange a layer of crispy crowns or tater tots over the cheese for that perfect crunchy finish.
7-Bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 25 minutes. If you want extra crispiness, broil for 1-3 minutes at the end.
8-Garnish with the chopped green onions and serve with mustard on top for a zesty kick.
Notes
🌟 Use crispy crowns for better texture; tater tots are a fine substitute.
🍳 Ensure skillet is oven-safe or transfer to a greased baking dish before baking.
🌶 Add jalapeños or use spicy diced tomatoes for extra heat.
