🎄 This Christmas Crack recipe combines the perfect balance of salty saltine crackers with rich, sweet toffee and chocolate for a festive treat.
🍫 Easy to make and customizable with toppings, it’s a delicious snack for holiday gatherings or gift-giving.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: About 36 pieces

Ingredients

– 35 saltine crackers for crispy base and salty contrast

– 1 cup (approximately 227 grams) unsalted butter for richness and caramelizing sugar

– 1 cup (packed) brown sugar for toffee layer with sweetness and depth

– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for enhancing flavor with a warm, aromatic touch

– ½ teaspoon sea salt or kosher salt (omit if using salted butter) for balancing sweetness with saltiness

– 2 cups chocolate chips for melted chocolate topping

Instructions

1-First, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking pan with nonstick or heavy-duty foil sprayed with cooking spray. Arrange the 35 saltine crackers in a single layer on the pan for that essential crispy base.

2-Next, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter and 1 cup of packed brown sugar together in a heavy-bottom saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring frequently until the mixture boils. Continue boiling for 3 minutes while stirring almost continuously to get the perfect caramel texture.

3-Remove the saucepan from heat, then stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and ½ teaspoon of sea salt or kosher salt if you’re not using salted butter. Pour this caramel mixture evenly over the crackers to cover them completely.

4-Bake the pan in the preheated oven for 5 minutes until the mixture is bubbly and golden. After baking, remove the pan from the oven and immediately sprinkle 2 cups of chocolate chips over the hot caramel layer.

5-Cover the pan with foil and let it sit for 5 minutes so the chocolate melts smoothly. Once melted, gently spread the chocolate evenly over the surface, then add any desired toppings like chopped nuts or sprinkles for extra flair.

6-Finally, let the toffee cool to room temperature or chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours until it’s fully set. Cut or break into pieces and store in an airtight container with parchment paper between layers. This treat is ready in about 15 minutes, making it perfect for holiday gatherings and fitting for all skill levels.

Notes

✨ Use good quality chocolate chips for a richer flavor.
❄️ Chill the toffee to ensure it sets firmly for easy cutting.
🎁 Add festive toppings like crushed candy canes or sprinkles for holiday-themed treats.
