🍽️ Recreate the beloved Cracker Barrel meatloaf at home with this authentic copycat recipe that delivers the same comforting flavors and tender texture
🏡 Bring family dinner back to the table with this classic comfort food that’s perfect for cozy gatherings and satisfying meals

  • Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8 servings

Ingredients

– ½ tablespoon olive oil

– ½ cup finely diced yellow onion

– ½ cup finely diced bell pepper

– 2 pounds (about 900 grams) 80% lean ground beef (or an equal combination of ground beef, pork, and veal)

– 1 cup crushed crackers (such as buttery salted crackers)

– 2 eggs, whisked

– 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

– ½ cup whole milk

– 1 teaspoon salt

– ¼ teaspoon black pepper

– ½ to ¾ cup ketchup for the topping

– 2 tablespoons brown sugar

– 1 teaspoon yellow mustard

Instructions

1-: Begin by preheating your oven to make sure everything cooks evenly from the start.

2-Gathering and Prepping Ingredients: First, gather all your ingredients so you’re ready to go. Dice the onions and bell peppers finely to help them blend into the mix without overpowering the flavor. Sauté these in olive oil for about 5 minutes until they soften, then let them cool this step adds a nice depth and keeps the veggies from making the meat tough.

3-Mixing and Shaping the Loaf: Next, in a large bowl, whisk the eggs and combine them with the crushed crackers, cooled veggies, shredded cheddar, milk, salt, and pepper. Add the ground meat and mix gently to keep it tender; overworking can make the loaf dry. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan, which helps it hold its form and lets excess fat drain away.

4-Baking and Adding Topping: Bake the loaf uncovered at 350°F for 30 minutes, then prepare the topping by mixing ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard. Brush this over the meatloaf and return it to the oven for another 30 to 40 minutes until it reaches 155°F inside. Let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing, as this allows the juices to settle and the temperature to rise to a safe 160°F.

Notes

🍽️ Using a loaf pan helps maintain shape and allows fat to drain
🧅 Sautéing vegetables beforehand enhances texture and mellows their flavor
🌡️ Letting the meatloaf rest before slicing locks in juices
