🍮 Indulge in the rich and creamy texture of this Overnight Creme Brulee French Toast Bake, perfect for a special breakfast or brunch.
🍞 The custard-soaked French bread cubes create a deliciously soft and caramelized crust that’s easy to prepare ahead of time.

  • Total Time: 9 hours
  • Yield: 6 to 8 servings

Ingredients

– 6 tablespoons (85 g) of butter

– ¾ cup (159 g) packed light or dark brown sugar

– 2 tablespoons of maple syrup (or corn syrup or pancake syrup)

– 6 to 8 slices of French bread, cut into ¾-inch cubes (with 1-inch thick slices recommended for best results)

– 4 large eggs

– 1 cup of half-and-half

– 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract

– ¼ teaspoon of salt

Instructions

1-First: melt the 6 tablespoons (85 g) of butter with the ¾ cup (159 g) packed brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of maple syrup in a saucepan over low heat until it’s smooth and combined.

2-Spread this caramel mixture evenly in a greased 9×13-inch pan to form the base layer that gives your toast that signature crunch.

3-Cut 6 to 8 slices of French bread into ¾-inch cubes and arrange them over the caramel layer for the perfect absorption of flavors.

4-Whisk together 4 large eggs, 1 cup of half-and-half, 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract, and ¼ teaspoon of salt to create the creamy custard mixture.

5-Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, cover the pan, and refrigerate for 8 to 10 hours to let everything soak in nicely.

6-Bake in a cold oven preheated to 350°F for 30 to 35 minutes until it’s golden and caramelized. For extra crispiness, bake for 20 minutes, flip the bread pieces, and continue for another 10 to 15 minutes.

7-Serve warm, topped with sweetened whipped cream and fresh strawberries or raspberries for a delightful finish. Each serving comes in at about 315 calories, so it’s a treat you can feel good about.

Notes

🍞 Use soft French bread sliced 1 inch thick for best texture and soak.
🥄 Adjust half-and-half to 1 1/2 cups and use 5 eggs for a softer custard or thicker bread slices.
🍳 Flip the bake halfway during cooking to ensure even caramelization on both sides.
