🍞 Hawaiian Roll French Toast Casserole Recipe with Sweet and Savory Flavors is a comforting, crowd-pleasing breakfast that combines soft Hawaiian rolls and juicy berries in a creamy custard.
🫐 This dish is versatile, easy to prepare, and perfect for special occasions or a cozy morning treat with delightful textures and balanced sweetness.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

12 Hawaiian rolls

1 cup blueberries (or raspberries, blackberries, or mixed berries)

8 large eggs

1 1/3 cups half and half (or 1 cup whole milk plus 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream)

1/2 cup white sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Powdered sugar for dusting

Maple syrup for serving (optional)

Instructions

1-Preheat the oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and grease an 11Γ—7-inch or 12Γ—8-inch baking dish.

2-Cut the Hawaiian rolls into 1-inch cubes.

3-Layer half of the bread cubes on the bottom of the baking dish, then sprinkle half the blueberries on top.

4-Repeat the layers with the remaining bread and berries.

5-In a large bowl, whisk together the 8 large eggs, 1 1/3 cups half and half, 1/2 cup white sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

6-Slowly pour this custard mixture over the bread and berries, making sure all bread pieces are coated. Gently press down with a spoon if needed, but without squishing the bread.

7-Cover the casserole with foil and bake for 40 minutes.

8-Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 to 30 minutes until the top is golden brown and the center is slightly jiggly.

9-Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm, optionally with maple syrup.

Notes

🍳 Use baking dishes sized between 11Γ—7 inches and 12Γ—8 inches; deeper oval pans work too.
πŸ›‘οΈ Cover casserole during initial baking to prevent excessive browning.
🍫 Try substituting berries or adding dark chocolate pieces for variation.
