🍿 Enjoy the nostalgic taste of Old Fashioned Popcorn Balls, easy to make and perfect for any classic treat lover.
🍬 These sweet and crunchy popcorn balls combine simple ingredients for an irresistible, fun snack that’s great for sharing.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: About 5 medium-sized popcorn balls 1x

Ingredients

Scale

7 cups popped unsalted popcorn

1 cup granulated sugar

1/3 cup water

1/3 cup light corn syrup or molasses

1 teaspoon salt (omit if using salted popcorn)

1/2 stick unsalted butter

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

1-Start: Start by gathering your ingredients and popping the popcorn fresh, then remove any unpopped bits for a smooth texture.

2-Mix syrup: In a medium saucepan, mix the sugar, water, corn syrup or molasses, salt, and butter over medium heat until everything melts together nicely. This step takes about 5 minutes, so keep an eye on it to avoid any burn.

3-Boil and test syrup: Once boiling, let the mixture reach 250Β°F on a candy thermometer, or test it by dropping a bit into cold water to see if it forms a hard ball. Pull it off the heat and stir in the vanilla extract right away for that extra flavor pop.

4-Coat popcorn: Pour this hot syrup over your popcorn in a big bowl, stirring fast to coat every piece evenly and avoid clumps.

5-Shape balls: Wait just a minute for it to cool enough to handle, then butter your hands well to shape the mix into balls about 2-3 inches across. Place them on parchment paper and let them sit for 15 minutes to firm up.

6-Store: Once set, you can store them in sealed bags for up to 5 days, making them a great make-ahead snack.

Notes

🌑️ Use a candy thermometer for an accurate syrup temperature; use the cold water test if needed.
🍬 Double or triple the recipe for larger batches, adjusting popcorn quantity as needed.
🀲 Butter your hands thoroughly before shaping to prevent sticking and ensure easy handling.
