Ingredients
– 375g (13oz) puff pastry forms the flaky base for wrapping the filling
– 6 slices ham adds savory protein and richness to each wrap
– 6 slices cheese such as Cheddar provides a melty, creamy topping
– 18 spears asparagus (optional) brings a fresh, crunchy element for added nutrition
– 1 beaten egg used for brushing to create a golden finish
– 1 teaspoon poppy seeds sprinkled on top for extra crunch and flavor
– 1 teaspoon sesame seeds adds a nutty taste and visual appeal to the baked wraps
Instructions
1-Roll out the 375g (13oz) puff pastry on a floured surface until it’s about 1/4 inch thick, then cut it into 6 equal squares for easy handling.
2-Place a slice of ham diagonally on each square to build the base flavor.
3-Add 3 asparagus spears per square if using, to include that fresh crunch in every bite.
4-Top with a slice or 2 tablespoons of grated cheese, like Cheddar, for a gooey center.
5-Brush one corner of the pastry with the beaten egg, fold the opposite corner over to overlap, and seal the edges with a fork to keep everything inside.
6-Arrange the pastries on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them at least 2 inches apart to allow for expansion.
7-Brush the tops with more beaten egg and sprinkle with 1 teaspoon each of poppy seeds and sesame seeds for a nice finish.
8-Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden, then let them cool slightly before serving fresh.
Notes
π₯ Use all-butter puff pastry for the best flavor and texture.
βοΈ Defrost frozen pastry in the fridge and let it sit 10 minutes before using.
π« Do not crowd pastry pieces; leave at least 2 inches between them for proper expansion and crispiness.
