🍞 Sloppy Joe Grilled Cheese merges two classic favorites into one sandwich bursting with savory and melted cheesy goodness.
πŸ§€ This recipe offers a hearty, comforting meal that’s quick to prepare and perfect for satisfying cravings.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 sandwiches

Ingredients

– 1 pound lean ground beef

– 1/2 medium onion chopped

– 1/4 cup chopped green pepper

– 2/3 cup ketchup

– 1 1/2 teaspoons dry mustard

– 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

– 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

– 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

– 8 slices Texas toast or sturdy white bread

– 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

– 4 tablespoons butter

Instructions

1- Cook and crumble the 1 pound lean ground beef in a nonstick pan over medium heat. When partially cooked, add the 1/2 medium onion chopped and 1/4 cup chopped green pepper. Cook until the beef is no longer pink and the vegetables are softened.

2- Stir in the 2/3 cup ketchup, 1 1/2 teaspoons dry mustard, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper. Simmer on medium-low heat for 5 minutes, then remove from heat.

3- For each sandwich, place 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese on one slice of the 8 slices Texas toast or sturdy white bread, top with a portion of the sloppy joe mixture, and cover with a second slice of bread.

4- Melt 1/2 tablespoon butter in a griddle or nonstick pan over medium heat. Place the sandwich in the pan and cook until the bottom is golden brown. Flip the sandwich, add another 1/2 tablespoon butter to the pan, and cook until the cheese is melted and the bread is browned on both sides.

Notes

πŸ•’ The sloppy joe filling can be made ahead of time to save cooking effort.
🍞 Use Texas toast or a sturdy white bread to hold the filling well.
🧈 Butter generously for a golden, crispy crust and melt-in-your-mouth texture.
