  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 20-24 meatballs 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1 pound ground lamb
2 tablespoons finely chopped parsley
2 tablespoons finely chopped cilantro
1 tablespoon minced garlic
3 tablespoons harissa
1 teaspoon coriander
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 small onion, grated
1 egg
Olive oil for cooking
For the Minted Yogurt Sauce:
3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
1/2 cup fresh mint leaves
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

1. For the minted yogurt sauce, blend mint leaves, lemon juice, and salt with a portion of yogurt until smooth, then stir in the remaining yogurt to thicken. Chill until ready to serve.
2. In a large bowl, combine ground lamb, parsley, cilantro, garlic, onion, breadcrumbs, egg, harissa, coriander, cumin, ginger, salt, paprika, turmeric, and cinnamon. Mix well.
3. Shape the mixture into 20-24 meatballs, using about 2 tablespoons of mixture for each ball.
4. Chill the meatballs for 30 minutes to help them retain their shape during cooking.
5. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Cook the meatballs in batches, searing for about 3 minutes per side until evenly browned and cooked through, approximately 8 to 9 minutes total. Alternatively, bake at 450Β°F (220Β°C) for 20 minutes.
6. Serve the meatballs with pita, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and drizzle with the minted yogurt sauce. Optional toppings include hummus, tzatziki, pickled red onions, or feta.

Notes

πŸ”₯ Adjust the amount of harissa to increase or decrease spice level as desired.
πŸ§… Grate the onion to retain moisture and add depth of flavor to the meatballs.
🧊 Chilling the meatballs before cooking helps them hold their shape better.
